    Edit for my last post:
Everyone knows that radiation poisoning may cause diarrhea so I’m surprised that Biden didn’t advise whomever was listening to him to go buy toilet paper.

I can’t see it nor understand it if it is true but on the news this morning they are talking about a 40 mile long convoy of Russian troops and supplies headed for Kiev.

It’s rather surreal in that whilst listening to the broadcast my brain switched to visions of a wagon train headed into Apache territory or Custer and his troops against the Sioux nation.
Is Putin baiting the Ukrainians or is he crazy enough to think Ukraine won’t attack such an open target?
If NATO decides to take out the convoy then we’re looking at a world war with a man who is already sabre rattling with a threat of nuclear weapons.

    * Maybe the Russians are only having their version of a Mardi Gras parade.

Meanwhile, western banks are readying themselves for a possible cyber attack against our banking systems.

And, as a special treat: Did you know that Switzerland is the only country that can shelter 114% of it’s population in the event of an attack?

And Switzerland has now come out as pro-Ukraine, a break from its long-standing policy of neutrality.

Now it appears that the sanction so lauded by the West have not had the intended impact. The Ruble has dropped but not collapsed as predicted, and the Germans have suddenly realized they are cutting their own energy throat in what they did. Russia was apparently prepared for all this and had put firewalls in place to soften the blow. I has been realized that Russia can now default on all its loans in the West, perhaps causing a cascade of failures by major banking institutions. China has stepped in as a negotiator between Russia and Ukraine, and, if successful, will put China in the driver's seat in the diplomacy of the world.
Some commentators have said that Biden effectively ceded Taiwan to China in last night's SOU address. Did anyone get that out of the speech?

If I didn't have to pay what debts I have and there were no meaningful consequences I'd figure I was that much money ahead. Duh.

Wikipedia's entry on Khazars is relevant to modern day Ukraine. The history, reaching back 1000 years, gives some insight into the modern differences between Ukrainians and Russians. It's a complex and confusing history but I find it fascinating.

I didn’t listen to the speech but as of this morning when I followed a couple of morning commentators, there was nothing said.
I’ll do a little checking and get back with ya.

I do know that as of a few months ago, Biden said we would defend Taiwan should China attack.
    Stupid statement to make.
Maybe he should send Kamala to negotiate with Xi.

Yep, that would fix it. You can look at her record to tell it would turn out just fine.

I imagine that Putin is understandably frustrated, and I think that Ukraine is just a demonstration of a larger frustration. As compared to China, the United States has much more in common with Russia, and they have made several overtures toward friendlier relations. Still, while China is a far greater threat to us, both political parties within the United States constantly hold Russia up as the bogeyman even as we do everything possible to make excuses for China and to give them a hand up even when they have to reach down to take it. You can be canceled in the American press for criticizing China while Russia is made the scapegoat for everything.

China has endless room for expansion into Asia, Africa, Central and South America, Canada, and even the United States as they are buying up our farmland, yet Russia is enclosed and the enclosures are tightening. Not to say that Putin is right in moving into Ukraine but I think I can understand why he's doing it. Playing nice has never done them any good as far as American politics is concerned and, besides, the United States has probably never looked weaker with the clear mental defectives at the top, and a population just waiting to be told what they are supposed to be afraid of next.

My observation/opinion is that the Chinese leadership are probably the most racist of any ethnic or national group. They would like the entire world to be Chinese. How boring that would be. I've always appreciated the diversity of peoples and languages.

This southern boy says do not use corn cobs in place of toilet tissue unless you want a very sore bottom.
