I could be happening to bleed what they can from Americans before they crash everything, or to start a war as a distraction for everything else they are doing. Roosevelt ran on the "Don't change horses in the middle of the steam" motto. That is how he got 4 terms. I am afraid the country will split apart, but an outside war might be another way to try to unify the country under patriotism as Russia has done.
If you listen to this report, this guy says that because the Russians hit the propeller of the drone, “US forces were prompted to bring it down”, literally saying that we did bring the drone down ourself. (You have to listen close) So this is at least the 3rd different version of what actually happened.
I don't know how we can determine the truth, @Yvonne Smith. The Russians obviously didn't want to destroy the thing; they wanted it mostly intact. They haven't admitted salvaging it that I have seen as that would allow the U.S. to give these drones to the Ukrainians, which they have refused to do for security reasons. If the Russians already had the technology, there would be no further harm done by giving the Ukrainians the drones as the technology would have been already compromised.
I don't understand what this means Don. I don't get the whole "reason" the US would want to do that? Introduce fighters as escorts for illegal drones?
There are some who think we want to get more involved in the war, as Ukraine is taking so many casualties and is being pushed back that airpower might be the answer. We can't just give the Ukrainians fighters, as they don't have anyone trained to fly them. They do have a few who can operate the MiGs that Russia has, so they have been trying to find some old MiG fighters to give to Ukraine. Poland has a few and some are scattered around the nations that used to be part of the Soviet bloc. The solution is to get an excuse to have American pilots fly American fighters in the war. Introducing them directly would be an illegal escalation since we are not supposed to be at war with the Russians. If we use them to defend our assets, it would be considered legal, but operating them in Russian territory still would be illegal by international standards.
I really don't like our military being involved in other countries turmoil. You mention "our assets" which I think about what the heck about our border, what about cleaning up our cities from crime. I just think our military could be better used in America until we get it cleaned up. I mean our military wasn't just formed to protect other countries, and it's damn time America became independent in producing our own needs here in the States, making jobs for American's. I sound like a broken record but how is it right to be out helping others when we can't help our own people, and issues here at home. And last but not least, why are we allowing another Afghanistan to happen? American soldiers are supposed to go out and train the world, teach them how to take care of themselves when again, we aren't taking care of our own?? We need to get serious about weeding out and hanging the traitors of America. Big Biz outsourcing so they can pay piddly wages, less taxes here at home, their rotten and they don't give a damn about America, only lining their own pockets.
