The valley of Gehenna is south of the hilltop temple where Jews once worshiped close to the Dome of the Rock where tourists still visit. This valley is the place where Jews once burned their children to death as sacrifices to the Canaanite god Molech. The ritual was for conveying the idea of passing the child through the fire and into the outstretched hands of the god. Ahaz and Manasseh were both kings who brought on the anger of God, who called it an abomination. Jesus referred to this valley as a symbol of hell, and it was also used an ever smoldering garbage dump. In Matthew 23:29: Jesus said: "Snakes! Offspring of vipers! How will you escape from the judgment of Gehenna?" (Aramaic Bible in Plain English)
