That's what I have, secrurity motion activated lights. They are powered by solar panels up on the roof. If they turn on Izzy wakes up barking like mad. Although Izzy is only nine pounds, he barks until I let him out to go see what's up. I had them installed after all the theift I went through last year. The only problem is that a stray dog or bunny rabbit can activate the lights. Well maybe not the bunny anymore, since Izzy caught it last weekend and deposited it on my front porch dead.
My neighbor deactivated their motion detected light because the critters kept setting it off. We have a lot of possums, raccoons and armadillo here, never mind the deer, stray dogs, a few cats, and coyotes. Oh, and the wild hogs ha ha. I haven't seen skunks or bunnies here in the neighborhood. They probably have less of an issue with it now that the people behind them have large dogs they let outside sometimes to bark all night. That's good to know, thanks @Gary Ridenour. I'm home most of the time anyway, and they're taking a chance coming in here. I would definitely feel more secure knowing they couldn't get in via the locks, but where there's a will there's a way, and a lot of the petty thefts/burglaries in this area (general area, not my neighborhood, necessarily) are due to drug users looking for easy pickings. They will go through any cars that aren't locked. I get irritated when people suggest locking the cars. Of course most lock them, but occasionally, someone will forget, and that shouldn't mean they are deprived of their hard earned belongings. In my opinion, if they step on the property uninvited, they're taking a chance.
