I was thinking about this subject as well, as I have wallpaper on my living room walls that has seen better days. Some friends have said just paint over it as it is easier, but I am old fashioned and like the idea of using wallpaper. Two things that can help your decision as in can you afford to have it done as in professionals or can you do it yourself? Another question is the wallpaper still sticking well or peeling off in places? The first question is mainly a matter of cost and the second question is if the paper is still stuck on good you can wallpaper or paint over top of it. But if the paper is ripped or peeling it must be removed.
I have a friend you loves wallpapering. But she said be sure to buy the pre-pasted type of paper and then add more paste when applying it to the walls. I have found a place online that sells wallpaper for much less then retail stores, thus making the affordable question easier on the pocketbook. But it is hard work and so health considerations must be considered as well.
At this time I am putting this project on the bottom of my home improvement list and continuing on with projects I know I can complete on my own. I wish you the best of luck with your project.
