The forum won’t let me post my picture, but the app says it is a Bristly Greenbriar, also known as greenbriar, catbrier, sarsaparilla plant, bamboo vine. It says that the roots of the plant are edible, if you want to look up more info about that part. Here is what I found: Yes, bristly greenbriar (Smilax tamnoides) is edible! Here are some parts of the plant that you can enjoy: Young Shoots and Leaves: The tender young shoots and leaves can be eaten raw or cooked. They are often compared to asparagus and spinach in taste and texture123. Roots: The roots are rich in starch and can be cooked. They can also be dried and ground into a powder4. Berries: While the berries are technically edible, they can be bitter and are not commonly consumed5. When foraging for bristly greenbriar, make sure to harvest the young parts of the plant before the thorns harden. This ensures they are tender and more palatable
Not anytime soon, but as many scars as it has given me, it sure would deserve it. All kidding aside after Yvonne given me so much information on it maybe I should keep a patch of it just in case. Who knows it may have some medicinal benefits too.
I did do a little yesterday, so far today just hanging in here. I'm getting lazy. But the day is still young.
Be a week tomorrow since I felt like going into the woods. I just wish this summer would end and we'd have a nice cool Fall.
Got my wish, last few days with Jakes help with pole saw I got another trail well on the way, not so much wanting a trail just saving some trees vines were killing. Today we got lots of them gone, we are taking a break now.
Spent an hour or so in the woods pulling, cutting vines. Jake helped and we are really getting it done. Saving a half dozen of medium to large size trees and dozens of sapling from being killed by vines.
It sounds like that tractor was a really good investment for you two, and is helping a lot with the vine clearing.
Yvonne far as the vines go it does help to pull the piles of vines small dead trees to the pasture. Vines are all hands on with loppers and my walking stick to knock them loose after I cut them from the ground and far as I can reach up the tree. The tractor did loosen some that had grown over one of my piles from 20223-4.Also where there was a large clump Jake did loose them up. Thing about the tractor the hooks tear up the soil around the tree roots and can damage the trees I'm trying to save. Thats why tractor is not really good for clearing vines. Tractor is a huge help in many ways like pulling brush, making new pathways, etc. Therapy for Jake for one,
It's the "best investment", we've ever made; what a deal it is. @Yvonne Smith , also yesterday we were on the front just inside woods, pulling vines and chopping them; and two teenage boys pulled up on ATV, where I had my tractor parked, and their eyes were open wide, staring at my tractor ; I came out of the woods; they jumped back on the ATV; and took off. Guess I didn't look friendly or something, wasn't trying to look offensive, or anything; just surprised me, by watching them looking so hard, at my "sexy", tractor.
