I became a Cub Scout at eight years old in Paterson, New Jersey, shortly after Pearl Harbor. My mother's nephew was in the Navy and was doing Sea Duty on a Destroyer in the North Atlantic out of the Brooklyn Navy Yard. He brought me a complete Cub Scout Uniform that he was able to get in Iceland. I was so proud because I was the ONLY kid that had a complete uniform. I stayed a Cub Scout for a few years but never became a Boy Scout.
I was a Cub Scout when we lived in Indiana. We moved to Virginia when I was 9 and I did not continue with it. There was no real decision made, it just never came up.
It that "colorized"? I would not have thought color film to be common when you (or even I) were that age. Unless this is not you...
Gotcha. My neighbor (67 years old) has been a Scoutmaster for most of his adult life. He finally took a step back last year to be assistant troop leader. Years ago someone else started another troop because of some personal issue the guy had. The boys in that troop would come to my neighbor when they needed advice or help, and he'd always say "Yes." I personally know 2 Eagle Scouts he escorted through the process, both 14 years old. Just a real good guy.
Den 5, Pack 3595, Chicago. I did not go into the Boy Scout program, after being a Cub Scout, though. I liked Cub Scout activities, the den meetings and pack meetings, but we never went camping. Weird.....
den 7 pak 46 I was active and did scouting things that's where I got into competitive shooting in sub junior classes, I still have my shirt, knife, ax and compass I still use now. I did enjoy it.
My ex-husband was an Eagle Scout, as was his father. He was also a "Sea Scout" as his troop on the Gulf Coast owned a sail boat. Both of our sons were Cubs but neither had a real interest in scouting. Oh, and no--I was not a Cub Scout, though I was in "Bluebirds" for a short time when I was 6. That was part of the Campfire Girls organization.
I wanted to be in the Boy Scouts when I was 15/16 but , for some strange reason, they wouldn't let me join.
