    "Step on a crack....break your mother's back."

To this day, I won't consciously step on a crack in the sidewalk. My late husband used to say that walking down the street with me was like watching someone play hopscotch.

Apparently, some beliefs never truly leave us.

Old wives tales they were. Watermelon seeds ingested would grow one in you stomach.
Get a cold if you went outside with no coat, or a wet head.
I do remember looking at my mother wondering how she managed to get so big after being born. Thinking she was born as is. Seriously. But then at age 7 the facts of Life were told and I figured it out from there.
Thinking you had to cut potatoes a certain way in order for them to cook.

I remember as a little kid I watched as mom vacuumed up a small plastic key of mine that I used to open my toy box. I thought for sure I would never see that key again, and all the toys in my toy box would never be used again. I cried because one of the toys was a little stuffed bear I fed every day. If he was not fed he could die!! Well, I didn't tell mom for a few days because I was ashamed that I may start crying again. Finally I told her about my bear (and I did cry a little). She told me the bear would be OK because she could get the key back. Well, she did, and from that point on I knew that vacuum cleaners really do not make things disappear. But then I began to think my mom was some kind of magician! I learned later on she really wasn't.

How about believing Miss Nancy of Romper Room actually saw the kids out in "TV Land" whose name she was reciting when she did her "magic mirror" routine at the end of the show.

Normal stuff when I was too young to know any better.
Then there was the age when I thought I knew better but if a cute girl was in the mix, things got a bit blurred.

But, along came Airborne Jump School (Army) and the D.I’s pounded into my head that I would be invincible once training was over.
At 18, I found out quickly how gullible I was when I was 17 and going through Jump school.

Some people believe because they exercise, eat vegan and carb free, take supplements, and other wild hair brained (giggle) things- they will live a long life. Nope, they may live better in Life than many , but death is gonna knock you on your butt one way or the other. :D
oh rats I had a Biden episode - does not answer the question- Yikes

Growing up in Brooklyn we lived close to the Newtown Creek, which had a unique and identifiable smell, it was really bad. From a mile away your nose knew when you were getting close to it. I was told when I was growing up if you had a cold and you went there and inhaled the fumes, you'll get rid of your cold. I can remember walking there and inhaling those toxic fumes on a cold winter day thinking my cold would be gone by the time I got back. After a few more days of suffering with my cold I thought to myself how stupid was I.
Of course I would never go down into the sewers because of the alligators that live there.
