My dad managed G.C. Murphy stores his entire career. I was there when the local fire marshal came in and measured the length of the cords on all of the lamps he was selling. They had the UL tags on them, but this guy personally had to make certain they were of regulation length.
@Beth Gallagher Having been troubled all my life by those forbidding tags, I became aware of an even more frightful admonition posted by government: Gas cylinders designed for consumable product, such as propane cylinders for torches and camp stoves, carry the government warning that refilling or transport of cylinder punishable by $500,000 fine! FIVE HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS! Incredible, and ridiculous. Frank
I didn't know that. There are instructions on the internet on how to refill those from a 20 gallon propane tank...or at least there were. I've watched them. Gee, that $500,000 is just the down payment on a member of the House. Senators cost even more. edit to add: Here's an article on this. The comments are "interesting."
Everyday when I get up and do my chores, is a risk. Just still being among the living is dangerous ,especially when you venture from your own home. That tis enough for me now days. I did all the more dangerous things in my younger years.
