the framing on this off grid cabin came from old barn timber. much of the materials in our builds are repurposed or recycled. 0707212010a_HDR.jpg 1125211053_HDR.jpg 1127211251.jpg

specialized expedition equipment is difficult to come by and sometimes it's necessary to diy... pulk sleds are sleds with harnesses pulled by a person on skis, snowshoes or on foot.

i'm assembling the necessary hardware, similar to the one i built a decade ago with a "skin 'n bone" structure for the poles which the sled is pulled and controlled by. foregoing metal eyehooks for nylon webbing and knots instead of nuts and bolts making it ultralight. this new sinch-binding (and harness interface) system, when not under tension, is adjustable along the length of the poles, only gripping once under load creating an organic structure through tensigrity. the whole harness assembly stows very compact as the poles within the webbing break down to one foot segments and modular as any sled or harness can be utilized.

it's thrilling to find innovative ideas when limited to a few odds and ends to work with!
