Round-abouts and bike paths are going in everywhere. Part of agenda 21 plan to seal people off into set areas and make bicycles a major mode of transportation. Low income housing within the town has increased along with crime rates. We are the center of the drug highway from Chicago/Milwaukee to Green Bay.
A few years ago they put one in up the road from me where a main road goes over the interstate. When it was first installed, someone died when they went down the Up ramp and ended up going west in the eastbound lane of the interstate. It was at night. You would think that seeing headlights coming at you would have been a clue. Then within the past year, they installed a second diamond a couple of exits up the interstate in a mid-sized city. The online pants-wetting was epic, although I do feel sorry for anyone who happens upon a diamond for the first time. Regarding roundabouts...I kind of like them, since no one knows how to navigate a traditional Two Way Stop these days and roundabouts eliminate left-hand turns. Everyone is in Four Way Stop mode, so traffic does not flow through Two Way Stops...it starts & stops in a confused manner because those who have the right-of-way always refuse to take it...and then they start...and then the other guy starts...and then they yield...and then both parties wave the other one on. There should be a law against yielding the right-of-way.
I am use to the diamond, but I still don't like it. It is suppose to make the traffic flow easier coming on and off the interstate. Instead, it confuses a lot of people and they don't know how to drive on it making it dangerous for the rest of us just trying to get to Menards.
Stated Goal: Prevent the traffic getting on and off the interstate from crossing the path of cars going in the opposite direction. Actual Result: Force all traffic to cross the path of cars going in the opposite direction TWICE, whether they're accessing the interstate or not.
I don't know about diamonds, since I haven't seen them, but I hate roundabouts. They cause confusion and an unnecessary slowdown of traffic.
