If nationality=race, then there are 3x as many races on the face of the planet as there are genders on your average college application...and that's a lot!

Things that everyone else seems to love, but you don't understand why?

If I had to choose just one, the rating vs taste gap would be largest with garlic. Others...

Avocado, black olives, cucumber, steak sauce (on a steak), ranch dressing

Don't think I've ever tasted caviar. Loved lobster, but can count on one hand the times I've had it, and all long ago.

As I sailed around for about six years our freezer/fridge was filled with fish and lobster which I liked but it ended up tiring eating the same thing we also had conch which is a very large salt water snail. we had all we could handle but It was like eating pieces of rubber and the smell was not that pleasant either. The only thing it was good for as far as I could see it was great bate because it was so tough that the fish could not pull it off the hook. Octopus ranked a close second for a meal of rubber.

I don't get the big deal about sushi; all I can say is "yuck." My daughter insists that I've just not had "good" sushi and I tell her I don't believe there is such a thing. :D

I also think caviar is disgusting; I can't get beyond the smell. (And this from a person who likes canned smoked oysters and sardines, haha.)

I've had caviar 2 times. I don't remember the particulars. The first time it was excellent and that made me given a 2nd chance sometime later. The 2nd time was pure yuck. end of story

I like garlic, especially if it's roasted.

I detest green olives but love kalamatas...they are very mild. You might like those, as opposed to regular harsh black olives.

I may have had ranch dressing once. It does not sound like anything real. "Ranch" dressing? Brings visions of cattle to mind.

Best I can tell there are only 3 people in the world who do not like garlic: . a former member of this forum, John Travolta, and me. I think it's the smell rather than the taste, same with Ranch dressing. I like green olives.

@Nancy Hart Didn't we have a conversation about shrimp scampi sometime back, or am I misremembering?

I think I made it, and was surprised at how strongly a single clove overpowered the entire dish. It's much better as a "background flavor," although I do love garlic bread.

Yes, that was my experience also with the shrimp. I joke around a lot about garlic. Don't take it personal (-ly).

Yeh, like I invented garlic. I will say that when the vampires attack, one of us will be S.O.L.

Actually, your comment about not taking it personal (-ly) reminded me of a guy I worked for who didn't like shrimp. You've probably experienced the same thing he did "I can't believe you don't like shrimp [insert garlic here]! You've never had it this way, I bet. Here...try it." (Then they shove it in his face.) He started telling people he was allergic rather than have "the conversation."

    Some people...

I love garlic and all kinds of olives; black olives are my favorite. :D And I love lobster, too.

One food "fad" I never got into is sun-dried tomatoes. Ick.
