This is definitely one of my favorite holidays. So glad I was born an American. Stay safe. I am off to the shore for a couple of weeks.
Awesome old-time picture of Independence Day fireworks as I remember it being , @Lois Winters ! ! Have fun at the beach, that is so wonderful that you live where you can do that . Be safe, have fun, and take some pictures for us !
As an adult I really like Christmas because people [generally] seem to adopt a more loving demeanor. Then you wake up Christmas morning and everything is dead quiet unlike any other day of the year. It's as though the whole world is at peace, if only for a moment.
My favorite is Samhain because it is when the veil between the worlds is most thin and psychic communication with ancestors is most profound, followed by the December Winter Solstice, the longest night in the northern hemisphere. I like the magick and mysteries of these two more than anyone of the federal holidays.
Mine is thanksgiving, because of the food, the family getting together, and for the most part, being on their best behavior, during the visit. A chance to play music and all the different types of games, and see all the new additions to the family. Some people I have met say their favorite is Xmas, Halloween, Valentine's, Easter, or one of the others for different reasons, but for me it's Thanksgiving. What's yours?
Since the kids are grown, Holidays are different. I never really liked the crowds at the 4th's fireworks. I LOVE cooking Thanksgiving dinner. It is automatic and easy now. Sometimes I trap friends into coming whose family's are away or busy. I like decorating for Christmas. We have a fir tree that grew from seed right in front of our living room window. I put lights on it for us and the neighborhood to enjoy. Sadly in a couple more years we will have to bring it in for decorating as it will get too close to the house.
