My router says 20 MBPS, whatever that means. Could someone explain these terms for me? I really dont know where to start looking for information. Especially ping. What does that mean?

I don't have a clue what it all means either; except I think that the faster it is, the better. Maybe @Gary Ridenour (who started us on this journey) will kindly now come back and explain what all of our reports mean.
    Gary ? ? Anybody ?

Nice speeds. The low 20s is the best I have seen in a download on a regular basis, and my uploads are almost always below one. The absolute fastest I have seen here has been 25 Mbps.

Remember the awful lag time with page loading in dial-up? Argh. And those pages were mostly text. I did love the dial-up modem hand-shake sounds, and "You've got mail!" from AOL back in the day.

The upside of living where I live is that I am on the edge of thousands of acres of woods, and I don't have to contend with traffic. The downside is that, because there aren't a lot of people here, no one is willing to invest in truly high-speed Internet. Still, I don't have much trouble streaming and, although I would enjoy having things appear on my computer instantly, I think it's a good tradeoff.

In fact, our state politicians often propose the idea of borrowing money for the state to upgrade the quality of the Internet in northern Maine, and I am opposed to that. If we had better Internet, we'd probably have more people living here, and I wouldn't want that.

My sister lives on a farm in rural south Georgia; they do not have internet at all... GASP! Used to, when we'd go to visit her I'd go through withdrawal but finally there is a good enough cell phone signal that I can use my phone hotspot.
