My above thinking is a bit faulty as a post in Roll Call would just show who posted it, not what it is about. Only if a special RIP thread is started would it be visible on N & A without entering the thread.
I don't think this entity is "looking at" Notices & Announcements. It logs in and then (for some reason) opens up the first group that's listed at the top...then it likely goes off and does other stuff in other places in either the virtual or the real world. It would be less of a mystery if it just logged in and took no action. But why why go into any group at all? I only noticed the name because MacFarland is the same surname of a girl I went to high school with 50 years ago...she was Chris.
My thoughts also, @John Brunner . Whatever it/she is doing, I do not think it is some senior lady browsing the forum. I thought maybe @Ken Anderson could tell if she was some kind of a bot (or something of that nature); but he said he can’t tell anything more about what is happening. I think it/she logs in for some reason, and then goes somewhere else; but I have no clue what good it does to be logged into the forum. As long as it is not putting any of us in some kind of danger, or harming the forum in some way, I suppose it does not matter……..but it still worries me. There are so many ways of getting someone’s private information online nowadays.
It's possible that she has the forum in a tab that opens automatically when she loads her browser. For example, although I think the forum software counts me as being logged out when I haven't been active for a period of time, I don't usually have to log into the forum as the forum is in a tab that preloads whenever I boot the browser, and it would show me in whichever part of the forum I was at the last time I was there. I don't know that that's the case, though. I'm just guessing.
Quite obviously a night owl type of person or someone who seriously needs to “get a life” so to speak , to spend that many hours reading a forum instead of interacting with others . Just a question @Yvonne Smith can this forum be read if your not a member ? OR logged in, if so why would anyone bother joining just to read the forum ?? TBH I’ve never tried as I’m logged in all the time , I don’t ever log out the only time I’ve logged out is if my iPad logs me out, if that’s happened which is very rare I’ve had trouble getting back on the forum
Most forums permit non-members to read text comments, but they can't see pictures or videos or perform Searches for threads and content. As Ken has mentioned from time-to-time, there are "robots" that go everywhere on the web gathering info from websites so as to make the stuff available for searches. If people "Google" for things that have been discussed here, then our threads will be part of those search results. Such robots do not have member accounts or even the capability to log in, but--like any other visitor--they are able to read content. I log out every night, but it's because I close Firefox and shut the lid to my laptop, causing it to "sleep." Each morning I have to log back in to my computer and then open Firefox again. I rarely shut down or restart my computer unless there's a problem or an upgrade that needs to install.
Thanks @John Brunner I use a iPad ,I have a laptop that’s around 12 years old it’s slower than a tortoise ,it should have been binned long long ago however I have mentioned in the past that I have a embroidery sewing machine that I still use for embroidery from time to time as well as sewing ( I recon I’ve made 100 masks without any other sewing ) The machine is 22 years old . All my embroidery designs are on the laptop and I’ve asked Husqvarna dealers is there any way I can upgrade my programs I have on the laptop and they say no …the only way I can get rid of the laptop is to stop embroidering ..OR buy new Husqvarna programs for $1900 for a updated computer . The current programs won’t run / on operate on a computer system higher than XP It’s 4 different programs . I could cut it back to 2
It's a throw away world we now live in and yet we tend to store too much importance in throw away components.
Who Is Susan? Sarandon Blakely B.Anthony Lucci Black eyed Monaco Boyle Hayward Haack Collins Q (Suzi)?
Since Susan is not participating in the Susan thread, I guess all topics are fair game. I remember your talking about that. I had no idea that Husqvarna made sewing machines (I hope I've not already said all this in your other thread.) They've been the dirt bike manufacturer of choice for the longest time (at least 50 years) and make high quality chain saws, weed eaters, etc. Every kid wanted a Husky. I bet it's a nice machine that would put Singer to shame. There's absolutely no reason you can't keep chugging along with that XP machine for your sewing. (And to think of all those McCall's and Simplicity patterns my mother had to store back in the day.) I've never owned an Apple/Mac computer. I recall the original ones back in the 80s...they looked like toys but all the people who did User Manuals and graphics loved them. Those folks laughed as the rest of us had to learn DOS as though we were mini programmers. It was years before IBM/Microsoft computers could even use a mouse, much less have graphics or even icons...everything was done with keyboard shortcuts. In fact, there were lawsuits when Microsoft stole Apple's "look & feel." Apple lost. So back on topic...I wonder if Susan uses an Apple. I wonder if she (I assume it's 'she') embroiders? I wonder if she's ever ridden a dirt bike
I’ll add my 2 Bobs worth ( that’s a very old Aussie saying ) cause we’ve been metric since 1966 I take a rough stab in the dark bet it’s a person that’s already / STILL registered under a different name @John Brunner
