i remember the ones my mom used to get every year. They came in one of the holiday decorative tins with a beautiful picture on top. I am pretty sure that mom saved them and she used them for other things where she wanted something in a pretty tin.
One like this is almost $50 on Amazon. I don’t know what my mom paid for hers, but it sure wasn’t anywhere close to that. Probably under $5.

You might mean the Collin Street Bakery fruitcake, Al. They are in Corsicana, TX and have been making fruitcakes since 1896. The cakes are very moist and good, and they come in those decorated tins. My MIL sends us one every year and we LOVE it. We just had a slice last night.

Soaked in a Rum covered dish towel for at least two weeks before Christmas. That's a pipe dream for me at this stage of life. I have bought a lot of the one dollar small Fruit Cakes at the local dollar store and they were absolutely great. I kept going back everyday and buying more until everyone else found out how good they were. ;0(

None of the stores near us even have fruitcake for Christmas this year. I looked on Amazon and they have the really expensive ones. So, I tried eBay, and they had a 2-pack of the small ones as cheap as driving all the way out to Kroger, who does have fruitcake but is not near where we live anymore.
I really like fruitcake, and am looking forward to when it gets here !

I love fruitcake, and my wife makes it every year. Hers has been different since she has eliminated grains form her diet, but it is still great. We haven't used the candied fruit stuff for decades, though, and use just a variety of dried fruits.

We were surprised to receive our annual Collin Street Bakery fruitcake this week. Turns out that my sister-in-law sent it since MIL passed away.

This thread reminded me that I had planned to make stollen again this year. I guess I should make it and take with us to my son's house this weekend. Here's the stollen I made last year...

The only store-bought fruitcake I like is Claxton Fruitcake. It's made in Georgia. I've been looking for it. It usually has a little display all by itself somewhere you'd never think to look. I always forget the check store websites first.

My absolute favorite homemade fruitcake is called Mrs. Harvey's White Fruitcake. My mom used to make this at Christmas. It doesn't have any of the bitter stuff, like citron or orange peel, or rum or liqueurs. Only cherries, pineapple and pecans.

@Yvonne Smith: Would it be appropriate to post the recipe here, or in the recipe forum? ( Or not at all. LOL )

With coffee -um maybe. Not a favorite here. Someone we knew years ago did make one that was really good.

A local guy makes them for sale. Because of the cost of ingredients, he charges $60 this year.

I'd put the recipe in the Recipe forum and maybe put a link to it in a comment here. Or put it in both places. Or make one and send us each a slice. ;)

I gotta admit I'm not a big fruitcake fan, but that might be some legacy childhood aversion born of a bad experience.
