When i was in my teens, Buddy Holly actually performed in Spokane , Washingon, and i was able to go and listen to him sing. It was a great concert ! Along with Buddy Holly and the Crickets, was Buddy Knox , Jimmy Bowen, and The Big Bopper. I think that there were others; but those were the leaders and the ones I remember getting to see and hear. Afterwards, we all rushed to the back of the stage and stood there in lines forever to get autographs from all of them. How I wish that I had that program book with all of those signatures still today ! When Don Williams came to Huntsville a few years ago, my daughter took me to his concert. I enjoyed going so much, and it was awesome to watch. Don just sat up there on his stool and sang to us like we were all sitting around in his living rooms somewhere listening to him sing. It was a great experience, and there is just not anyone else now that I want to go and listen to in concert. I DO wish that I had gone to see Elvis way back when, though....
@Yvonne Smith - what a great experience I would have loved to have seen the 'Big Bopper' - he was unique !
I think it would have been fun to see Frank Sinatra. I also always enjoyed Jim Croce. I was talking to someone online once who saw his last concert and the fire in the sky from his plane blowing up. There are a lot of great artists that are no longer with us. There were several I would have wanted to see actually. That would be an interesting poll actually who would you most like to see perform.living or dead?
@Patsy Faye A fellow who ran a concession selling Indian jewelry when I worked at Sears revealed to me, as we reminisced about a Croce song being played, that he had played drums in the Kingston Trio, and knew Croce well. He spent a number of times with his boys visiting Croce and his kids in Denver, I think it was. Frank
@Frank Sanoica How good is that ............... I could spend hours talking to musicians, singers, songwriters There's no business like show business - well back then anyway, when it was taken more seriously
I guess this is a fantasy thread so I would like to toss in my 2 cents worth. Although I am not really a fan of music when I was young, I would say it is the Beatles. Can you imagine the Fab Four performing live on stage? It would be the greatest attendance in terms of concert tickets. Last year when Paul McCartney performed live in Japan, one of my colleagues spent his life's savings for the trip (Philippines to Japan plane ticket costs $700) just to be there in the concert. He went with his wife and young daughter, there all attended the concert. And he said that he was crying when Paul McCartney sang his first song. The crowd in the concert was in frenzy when the Beatles song were performed. I think Beatles still has the most fans alive now and only second is Elvis Presley's.
I always wanted to see Sinatra but never did. Saw James Brown - great show. Saw Lena Horne - fantastic. Still love Johnny Mathis music. Friends went to see Liza Minnelli back in the day and they said she brought the house down. I'd like to see Michael Buble.
The absolute greatest "bang for your buck" was available way back in the 1960s, thinking of the great shows in Las Vegas. Stardust's "Folies Bergere" was fantastic. We saw Presley in 1969 at MGM Grand, he performed "Suspicious Minds" on stage, it was wonderful! I secretly recorded that song (I think it was not yet released then), under the table! Took my Mother to see Buddy Hackett. One most wonderful performance I remember was done by Rouvaun. His singing was unsurpassed! "Rouvaun was a virtual unknown until February 5, 1967, when he appeared in Las Vegas as the headline singer leading the 100-person Frederick Apcar French stage review Casino De Paris at the Dunes Hotel." (from: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rouvaun ) The dinner shows included multi-course meals before the show, and cost ten or twelve bucks. Unbeatable! Frank
