Just read online that Glipizide is used to lower BG that has risen high due to Prednisone. Checked my BG this morning and it was 208 again, which is better that the 215 it was, but not dropping by much. So taking only Metformin isn't bringing down my BG that much. I use to take a 5mg of Glipizide, along with a 500mg of Metformin each AM. Due to my BG not coming down enough (for my liking), in the middle of February I asked my VA doctor to "up" my daily Metformin to 2,000 mg from 1,500mg daily. She did that and told me to stop taking the Glipizide. I still have 1/2 bottle of Glipizide left. So, this morning I took a 5mg Glipizide with a 500mg Metformin and will take a 500mg Metformin at lunch and another at supper time.........the way I done it for quite a while. Tomorrow I will take the same and then check my BG on Friday Am to see how the Glipizide is doing.

I feel like once I get my BG back "in-check" at 150 or so, hopefully my vision will go back to normal. Had started taking Bilberry Extract w/Lutein, but will stop until BG is back to normal. Don't want my diabetic med and this Herbal Supplement together messing me up getting my BG down.

@Cody Fousnaugh , how's your blurred vision? All gone I hope!

Anyway, I just got back from Walgreens and I noticed a huge sign by the pharmacy that stated that's it's California law for the pharmist to go over any NEW medication with you. You can refuse but they have to offer. Don't know if it's the law in Florida though...just wanted to let you know, almost took a pic of it but didn't want the pharmacists thinking I'm doing something to cause them trouble since I was waiting for my pain meds. :)

The pharmacists didn't tell me, because we got into a short discussion about the dosage difference that was on the bottle and the one the doctor wrote on the back of his business card and gave me. After the short discussion, I said "thanks" and walked away. He went back to work.

So, neither the doctor or the Pharmacist discussed any side affects with me. That is the first time that ever happened to me dealing with a new medication.

Now, that "side affects" discussion doesn't happen when picking up repeat medications, right? Only for a new one.

As far as my vision goes, since it was "high sugar" related, from the Prednisone, I've been bringing my blood glucose number down by adding a couple of Glipizide to my daily Metformin dosage. Distant vision isn't all the way back, but there is an improvement. Thanks for asking

Yes, that's what the sign said...New medication. I never even noticed the sign before but doesn't mean it wasn't there, just that this topic made me aware and it caught my eye.

Glad to hear it's improving...a good sign it's not permanent, just takes time.
