I would have no problem with the media not taking any side at all, but the media clearly does take a side. It just doesn't seem to be our side, as I would interpret it, and it obviously isn't Israel's side. I can't think of a war in which no civilians were killed. When speaking of the Palestinians, aren't they all civilians in the sense that they don't hold rank in a recognized military organization? If that's not the case, how would anyone be able to tell the civilians apart from the soldiers?
What is at the core of this conflict? Nakba Day: What happened in Palestine in 1948? This year marks 74 years of Al-Nakba, or the Palestinian experience of dispossession and loss of their homeland. Every year on May 15, Palestinians around the world mark the Nakba, or catastrophe, referring to the ethnic cleansing of Palestine in 1948. Having secured the support of the British government for the creation of a Jewish state in Palestine, on May 14, 1948, as soon as the British Mandate expired, Zionist forces declared the establishment of the State of Israel, triggering the first Arab-Israeli war. Zionist military forces expelled at least 750,000 Palestinians from their homes and lands and captured 78 percent of historic Palestine. The remaining 22 percent was divided into what are now the occupied West Bank and the besieged Gaza Strip. Israel’s military occupation of Palestine remains at the core of this decades-long conflict that continues to shape every part of Palestinians’ lives. https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2022...estinian-villages-destroyed-by-israel-in-1948 There is more to read. This is just an excerpt.
The IDF is now heavily involved in the very heart of Gaza City. Piece by piece the IDF has cleared vast areas of northern Gaza. They are finding literally hundreds of tunnels located in civilian homes and in schools. But, Hamas has not emerged in large numbers, choosing instead to attack in small groups of 10-15 , then trying to retreat back into their underground lair. More often than not, however, they are quickly wiped out. The IDF is finding hundreds of above ground stock piles of weapons: RPG's , mortars , land mines, hand grenades, and automatic rifles. The IDF is now surrounding 3 hospitals: Al Shifa, the largest, which is also the main command post of Hamas, the Indonesia Hospital and the Children's Hospital. If the IDF had wanted to destroy these hospitals they could have done so by attacking with aircraft bombing. BUT, they have not. Hundreds of Palestinian's are still sheltering in those hospitals in spite of repeated warnings to flee south. Every day, an IDF "pause" in the fighting has allowed thousands of Palestinians to walk south to safer ground. BUT many are choosing to remain in place. Regarding the "humanitarian crisis": in spite of what Hamas and the Palestinian Authority is saying, Israel has opened up the water taps in SOUTH Gaza and daily, 1 million cubic yards of water is flowing into southern Gaza.
The fog of war. One side says one thing and the other side says the exact opposite. With communications disrupted it is quite difficult to confirm much of anything. The UDF is trying to evacuate all NORTH Gazan hospitals, but Hamas is doing their best to prevent the mobs of civilian from leaving the hospitals. The largest hospital, Al-Shifa, still contains thousands of Gazans who are sheltering there. The east side of Al-Shifa is open for a safe evacuation. In one video we see IDF soldiers allegedly carrying 5 gal cans of fuel into Al-Shifa. Tomorrow the IDF will assist in transferring new born babies to a hospital in southern Gaza. The Gaza Health Ministry, which is controlled by Hamas, says that Al_Shifa Hospital is under siege and being attacked by the IDF. The IDF has said that there is no siege at Al-Shifa Hospital. Yes, the IDF does attack NEAR the hospital but not the hospital or any of its grounds. In time, the IDF will eventually take control of all Al-Shifa Hospital and we will finally know if Hamas has indeed been using that hospital as a major command post and hide out for it's top leaders. For decades the world press has been keeping tabs on Al-Shifa hospital and there are NUMEROUS reports that Hamas is the power behind the scenes. As far back as 2009, the press has seen armed Hamas fighters roaming the hospital and intimidating staff. Elsewhere in Gaza, the advance of the IDF ground troops has slowed in order to build up their forces in areas that they have already cleared. Meanwhile, the air attack continues attacking Hamas when ever they exit from tunnels. In daily press briefings, the IDF has said that thousands of Hamas fighters have been eliminated.
Gazans that die leave behind friends and family members which now have even more of a reason to fight and resist the occupiers. Each death multiplies the hatred. This will never end and unfortunately it's drawing the U.S. into it.
We never change. Tribalism is too engrained in our DNA. Think how relevant this is today when Frank Zappa first wrote these lyrics, about 50 some years ago. …”You know we gotta sit around at home And watch this thing begin But I bet there won't be many left To see it really end 'Cause the fire in the street Ain't like the fire in my heart And in the eyes of all these people Don't you know that this could start On any street in any town In any state if any clown Decides that now's the time to fight For some ideal he thinks is right And if a million more agree There ain't no great society…” He was talking about race riots but it applies generally to all of human hate.
Ed, You are absolutely correct about the hatred . There are, however, two distinct motivations. One is that the Palestinians have an age old claim to the land. And, secondly, a religious one in which Jews are enemies of Muslims. Taken together, they are a powerful motivation to fight Jews. Obviously, two peoples who claim to be the "sole and rightful" owners of the Holy Land can not co-exist peacefully. It should be pointed out, moreover, that the Palestinians have been killing Jews long before Israel became a nation state in 1948. In that regard, the terrorists have picked up where the Nazi's left off. If there were no Hamas terrorists, there would still be discontent , and relatively small scale violence, but not outright war. The only way that there can ever be peace is to separate them. BUT, how to achieve that is a mystery.
Day 35 of the Israel/Hamas war. The IDF is saying that Hamas has lost control of Gaza and that Palestinian civilians have begun to loot Hamas supply depots. Clearly Hamas has not been able to stop the remorseless IDF onslaught. Central Gaza City is now thoroughly infiltrated by IDF. Though Hamas has been badly mauled they are still able to launch rockets into greater Israel, but the "Iron Dome" has intercepted almost all Hamas rockets. A few have gotten through but no Israeli has been killed. The IDF has surrounded the Al-Shifa Hospital complex , BUT have not yet attempted to enter it. The IDF is not attempting to squeeze closer than a few blocks away. Israel is under intense international pressure to NOT attack Al-Shifa Hospital. However, since Israel has maintained that Al-Shifa Hospital is the number one command and control center for Hamas, the IDF will have to eventually control it. Every day, a 4 hour humanitarian "pause" is in effect to allow civilians to flee south to safety. One Al-Shifa Dr has said that they are under sniper fire from the IDF. BUT, that is unlikely. If the IDF wanted to they could obliterate the hospital. It is more likely that that Dr is speaking for Hamas. Egypt is offering to take all neonates especially those requiring ICU, by ambulance to Egyptian hospitals. Egypt has said that it has 36 ambulances ready at Rafah Gate. BUT, Egypt, NOT the IDF is in control of the Rafah Gate. So, why don't they just do it ? Hamas has sent out messages offering to release 70 hostages in exchange for a 5 day ceasefire. Obviously Hamas is getting desperate. It seems unlikely that Israel will let up pressure on Hamas. Israel has replied that only when all 239 hostages are released will they even consider a ceasefire. The IDF knows quite well that any ceasefire would allow Hamas to regroup and move terrorists further south for the final battle.
This coming in just now. The IDF has confirmed that it is conducting a "precise and targeted raid inside Al-Shifa Hospital". The teams include medical units and Arabic speakers. We will soon know who has been telling the truth.
The IDF is now in control of Al-Shifa Hospital Complex. They are finding hundreds of AK-47's, hand grenades, suicide vests, all in violation of the Geneva Convention . Both Hamas and hospital personnel have denied that Al-Shifa is being used as a base for Hamas. The hunt for tunnels inside the hospital complex is still ongoing, but Al-Shifa is huge and has many buildings , so this may take days. The IDF is currently bringing in much needed medical supplies, fuel, food and water.
The other side if anyone is interested. If you watch this, start around minute 30. This is not pro-Hamas, but it is generally a neutral news source that doesn't trust propaganda by either side. https://rumble.com/v3vz6st-breaking...largest-hospital-u.s.-silent-as-water-cu.html
I had expected that once the IDF entered Al-Shifa Hospital Complex there would be many Hamas fighters and tunnels into the underground command and control center. Yes, the IDF has found weapons but no Hamas fighters and no tunnels.. at least not yet. Perhaps most importantly, no hostages. I don't know what to make of that. The IDF seemed so certain that Al-Shifa is a major center for Hamas
The IDF has stumbled upon the body of one of the hostages, a 65 yr old woman kidnapped on Oct 7th. She was found in a private home in Gaza City. Her name has not been released yet. If the IDF does not uncover any terrorist tunnels under the Al-Shifa Hospital there will be a huge backlash against Israel. Already there have been journalists who have been reporting that the IDF is making war against hospitals. Failure to uncover terrorist tunnels under Al-Shifa Hospital will multiple those kinds of reports, many fold.
This just in. A 69 yr old, Jewish pro-Israeli protester was killed by a 50 yr old pro-Palestinian Arabic college professor during a Ventura County demonstration. The Arabic man stuck the Jewish man over the head with a megaphone. The college professor was arrested and is being held on 1 million dollar bail. Oddly, the charges are only involuntary manslaughter, and assault to cause bodily harm.
I don't know if people on SeniorsOnly are keeping up with the war in Gaza, but Israel is losing the "media war". Where ever we look we see videos of how badly the IDF is treating the Palestinians in the hospital. Especially, as related to the takeover of Al-Shifa Hospital Complex. For the last several weeks the IDF has been saying that there is a vast underground Hamas command and control center directly under that hospital. When the IDF finally took control of the hospital, there were no Hamas fighters present, no hostages, and only one tunnel shaft has been located so far. There used to be hundreds of wounded and hundreds of those seeking shelter from the fighting in Al-Shifa. Hospital staff has been saying that the situation is dire. They claim that they have run out of fuel and hence no electricity to run equipment and a shortage of food and water. In recent days they claim that even water has run out. And now the hospital staff is saying that they have been ordered to evacuate the hospital. The IDF denies that they have ORDERED an evacuation. The IDF has said that hospital staff REQUESTED an evacuation. The IDF says they have secured a safe corridor for those who wish to evacuate to safer ground. A big difference between an ORDER and a REQUEST. In the meantime, the hospital staff is saying that people and infant babies are dying. Most international journalists are reporting that the IDF has committed a war crime by attacking a hospital and hundreds are dying because of that. The IDF says that they have brought in 4,000 liter of water, 1,500 MRE's and medical supplies. In many BBC and Al Jazera videos they are reporting ONLY those stories that benefit Hamas. This has spread to other somewhat less biased international news organizations. Journalists are complaining that they are not being given to free access to the Al-Shifa Complex and that the IDF is hiding the truth. The result is that world opinion has swung against Israel . To be honest, the IDF has dropped the ball. In my opinion, the IDF should have broadcast videos of them supplying food, water and medical supplies, but we have seen only sparse evidence of med supplies arriving. Meanwhile, upwards of 20,000 Hamas terrorists remain in or under Gaza.
