The next episode of Apple Watch in our lives. Since I love having my Apple Watch so much, we are getting one for Bobby next. A while back, Robin gave us a gft that we could not use, and I turned it back in to Best Buy for a gift card. Today, we went to Best Buy and ordered one of the refurbished watches for Bobby , and he should have it in a couple more days. I am sure that it will grow on him just like it did with me, and in a week or so, he can make his own addition to this thread. I will also warn @Bobby Cole that @Ken Anderson doesn’t approve; so he will have to be careful about that, too.
Although I do not know much about your wife other than what she writes, I think SHE will approve and that trumps your opinion. So there..…………...
I was just watching a video and the Apple Watch is going to be able to use a walkie-talkie app, probably by this fall when the new iOS for the watch comes out. It looks like it can work with any of your Apple Watch contacts. I am not quite sure why it would be much different than just calling them with the watch, except that it functions like a walkie-talkie (only one can talk at a time) and not like a phone conversation where you both can talk. I tried calling on the watch for the first time last week, too. Before, I have answered phone calls when they came in, but I have only called someone with the phone. So, I asked Siri to call Bobby, and , sure enough, the watch-phone started calling him. It works great, and is such an easy way to call, or answer a call. The longer I have this watch, and the more things I do with it, the more I love having it !
My 23-year-old Timex analog watch has finally stopped running, even though the Backlight function still works. I tried to replace it at Walmart today, but all their analog Timex watches have a Date window, which I don't want. All I want in a watch is one that displays the Hour, Minute, and Second, either in Analog or Digital form. Nothing else! No Day or Date window, no Temperature, Humidity, Altitude, Wind Speed, Heart Rate, Elapsed time, or Phases of the Moon. I never wear a watch anyway, so it doesn't even need a strap. Hal
So.....order pocket watch from Amazon. I bought one about 10 years ago and as far as I know, it still works. That's,...…. as far as I know because I have no idea where it is nor have I since a week after I bought it.
I use my old Timex wristwatch as a temporary calibrating source. I'll explain: Sometimes my bedside clock radio loses time, and the morning 6 o'clock news then comes on a few seconds late, so I'll miss the first part of the headlines. So sometime during the day, I'll take my Timex into the room that has an Atomic Clock, which gets its time from the National Bureau of Standards at Boulder, Colorado. I'll set my Timex to the exact second on the Atomic Clock, then take it (which has become a temporary Mobile Time Standard) into the bedroom and set the clock radio to the exact time from my Timex. This is the only use I have of my Timex watch, so I think a Pocket Watch would be good replacement. Thanks, @Bobby Cole! Hal
My wife and I both have Apple watches. What we liked best was that we did not have to carry our iPhones from room to room with us to answer calls. We could also access information using our watches. Before I retired it was very useful since I had the larger iPhone and did not carry it around the office or home with me. It sat in one place and I would have to run to it to answer a call or walk to it to check some information. To me the watch was a blessing. My Wife no longer had to fish out her phone from her pocketbook to answer it. Enjoy the watch. You can do a lot of things with it and I think they are very useful for women or men that would otherwise carry their phone in a bag of some sort. FYI, look on Amazon for additional watch bands. Much cheeper than Apple. My wife has several casual ones in all sorts of colors and a few formal ones.
The Apple Watch Adventure, Season 2, episode 1...... Today , my new Series 4 cellular Apple Watch arrived, and I think that I love it already ! It has lots of new features, new watch faces, and now, it can even tell when I fall and call for help if I need it. The sensor can detect most falls, and then it displays a message asking if you need help, and you can say yes or no. If you do not answer (unconscious), then it calls emergency, and alerts the emergency contacts from your phone as well as showing your GPS location. This watch is just a tiny bit larger than my old one, but I think that might be because the screen goes further to the edge now. It also has sensors to remind me if I start exercising and forget to set the activity tracker, or remind me if I forget to say I am finished. Bobby has upgraded to my Series 2 watch, which has the waterproof lock, so he can use it if he swims. It is not cellular, but works as long as he has his phone nearby, so if he is doing something, he doesn’t have to stop to find and answer his phone.
I hadn’t worn a watch in many years when Robin gave me the first Apple Watch, @Chrissy Cross , and I was not sure that I would be comfortable wearing one anymore, no matter how beneficial it was. However, by the end of the first week, it was like I had never stopped wearing a watch, and I barely thought about having it on my wrist. I don’t care for the silicone bands, and that is what usually comes with the watch, and finding one that I am comfortable with has had me trying out several of the bands. The one I finally liked best is a soft fabric kind of band that has a Velcro closure so it is totally adjustable. It lets air through, unlike the silicone bands. Since I swim, I can’t wear a leather band, and the chlorine in the pool has faded out the little Velcro band. But, other than finding a comfortable band, wearing the watch is fine, and I really like the convenience of it,, and the safety features in case I need help.
Yes, all the great features are a big draw for me but....still anxious about wearing a watch...only jewelry I can stand now are earrings...even a necklace bothers me. Maybe I'll try again this Christmas.
Well yesterday my daughter gave me her old iwatch2 so I can see if I like wearing it. This is my first day with it, so far so good but I'm really not sure what I'm doing half the time, lol. Have to study it. Seems I'm always touching the wrong thing. Ive got what I want the most figured out and that's my activity. They just left for Hawaii so @Yvonne Smith ...what's the best and easiest site for me to study to learn what I need to know?
I just messaged you the link for the Apple Watch manual thatis put out by Apple. You can download it into your iBooks. It says the new watch, but it will work for any of them. What I did was read through the whole thing to get an overview of how things worked, and then went back to specific pages as I needed to know something. You can also look on youtube for specific tutorials for things , like how to change the watch face, and stuff like that. Message me if you have questions ! What series is your Apple Watch ? You are going to Love this watch !
