@Diane Lane - perfect reasoning, I feel exactly the same I guess we've both been through it .............
When we lived on our farm, an old aunt and uncle of my mom lived on the neighboring farm. They never bought anything new. All their machinery and most appliances came from farm sales and auctions. And, they never threw anything away. Off to the side of their barnyard, amid a stand of trees, every piece of worn out machinery, tractors, trucks and cars and appliances rested and rusted. The loft of one barn was crammed with old furniture, sewing machines and the like. I was about 7-8 years old then, and I spent lots of hours idling around over there.
@Diane Lane. I treat all furniture before it enters my home. I found that Avon's Skin So Soft with the sprayer works wonders. After a thorough vacuuming I spray underneath and all the seams. I do this until the bottle is almost gone. The oil suffocates any kind of bug and I love the scent.
@Diane Lane "I like character in my people......" Wellll, I AM a character.........and I don't know that you like that............ Frank
Yes, we sure are the throw away society. Gadets, appliances, people it seems they all get thrown away when someone thinks they are past their usefulness. That is why I liked seeing a shoe repair shop the other day. I bet the guy who runs is over 60 though. I can't imagine someone today doing shoe repair as a living. You don't even see too many furniture repair shops or services around.
@K E Gordon That's true, we have a couple of shoe repairers here but they do other things too, mending watches fixing straps for bags and watches all sorts of added bits to boost the business
As with most people, money dictates what I can purchase. I would love to buy high quality items that would last longer. However, my income dictates that I purchase lesser expensive items, take care of them, and strive to replace them as little as possible,
