    My absolute favorite is O Holy Night but it has to be in Swedish sung by Jussi Björling one of the greatest operatic tenors of all time.

    No Christmas is complete without it.

    Even if you don’t understand Swedish it’s still a moving rendition and the winter pictures are beautiful.



    Here’s the Swedish text if you want to try and follow it.

    It's easily the most operatic hymn. As an aside...does the name "Helga" translate to "holy"?

    @John Brunner Yes, it’s the feminine form of Helge

    Strictly speaking holy translates as helig.

    Helga in O Helga Natt would more properly translate as sacred or hallowed.

    The word helgat appears in the Swedish version of The Lord’s Prayer. ”Helgat varde ditt namn”. ”Hallowed be thy name”.
