Now I have a question for everyone. For those who did celebrate Thanksgiving at one time or another, do you have a special one that stands out in your mind...and if so what made it so special or even disasterous, etc.?

One Thanksgiving that stands out in my mind is the one in which my son-in-law was the one cooking all the meat in all his outdoor "contraptions" ....he burned the turkey, ham, and a brisket to a crisp and none of the meat could be eaten it was so dry and tough. So we ate all the side dishes and dessert that we had made that Thanksgiving and we have never let my son-in-law cook ALL the meat ever again. :)

There's a reason for everything and who would have known that when I posted this virtual Thanksgiving it would actually end up being the only Thanksgiving get together I had this year. Now that is a first for me but as much as I thought I have taken off the rose colored glasses and faced the reality of life now days...this reality definitely caught me by surprise. I have accepted over the years as my children married and had their own families (and we were blessed with wonderful son-in-laws and grandchildren) that our Family time together would decrease as their raising families of their own and careers, etc. increased. But one thing I never prepared myself for was becoming invisible to my children. Yesterday, in ways I still am not really ready to process....this happened....and my heart hurts. I know nothing stays the same...but I'm not ready for this. :(

So sorry to read the above Babs, I think the way you are feeling needs to be expressed to your family
closing down on communication may be a mistake :)

Where is this? I'm out right now and there's no crowds.

Since online shopping the crowds get smaller and smaller each year

You are right @Patsy Faye....and I did express my feelings to my family but it's funny how now days your kids are so self-centered and don't want to hear how you feel. Just keep your mouth shut and do what you want them to do....and everything is fine. But I can't do just what they want anymore...and I don't want too. I want to know that I'm loved and respected just for me too.

Sending you HUGS, @Babs Hunt . I am sorry that your Thanksgiving didn't end up like you thought it was going to do, and I think that this is something that all of us face, or at least some of us do, as we get older. Ina and I have talked about this very same thing, and it has even been the topic of threads on this forum about how sometimes we seniors feel isolated from our families.
Some families are still closely involved and do not seem to feel isolated, and that is a wonderful thing when they can all still interact together, and this seems to be something that other cultures seem to grasp better than Americans do sometimes.
I look back and think about when my parents were older, and my life was so hectic, and just trying to work and take care of my kids was my main concern, and I didn't even think much about that my parents might be lonely, and looking forward to our visiting them.
Now, I can look back and wish that I had had more time to spend with my mom and dad when they were still alive.

@Yvonne Smith...thank you for understanding. I realize more and more that our children are just growing up in a different World and they are choosing materialism, etc. over home and Family. I have spent the last few years praying and talking to my children about how important family is...but they are making their own choices on this, and after living with abuse and just taking relationships....I will not spend the few years I have left on this earth living with people, even family members who choose these one way relationships. Facing this today really hurts deeply but I want the last years of life spent with real Family...that respects and loves me as much as I love them.
