Either Jif or Peter Pan... always smooth. My husband is the peanut butter hound and he hates chunky. I've tried the "natural" peanut butters but I hate that inch of oil that has to be re-incorporated each time.
I don't know about a brand, but I prefer chunky peanut butter. I haven't liked any of the more natural, healthy brands that I've tried. It seems that they always have oil on the top, and everything else dry. When I try to mix the oil in with the dry peanut butter, it doesn't mix well. Way too much trouble. I rarely buy peanut butter though, because I eat too much of it.
Frankly, I find the creamy Shop Rite brand to be absolutely delicious. I don't eat it much, but I think in my lifetime I've tried them all and this one is terrific. It isn't too heavy or sweet and smooth as silk.
One reason I prefer smooth over chunky. It tears up the regular bread when spreading. Adding more is an overkill of the peanuts.
